THE STRUCTURE
In order to build the school
an area of around 5,200 sq m. was acquired behind the Socrates-Rezende
quarter, one of the most degraded parts of Canavierias.
In
this area there was a derelict structure of about 100sq m which has
been restored to modern day use. The ground floor of the school
is 600 sq m (including the veranda areas) and
is fitted with 2
large classrooms, a hall, communal bathrooms/toilets, a staffroom
and an office. The roof is made of
Brazilian tiles (tejado), which are made from red clay and have been
especially treated. It will be possible to
extend this building in the future.

The surrounding area not
only provides a playground, but also the space
needed to keep small animals, space for gardening and an area for
the children to learn crafts, music ect...
